Recent Training Courses/Talks attended

Professor Allen-Mersh attended a meeting entitled “Complexities in Coloproctology: Annual Update” at the Royal Society of Medicine on Friday 23rd September and he was invited to Imperial College as a Skills Assessor on 26th September, where he assessed the general surgical skills of trainee Surgeons.

* Current waiting times for appointments and reports *

The current waiting time for a medico-legal appointment at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London is 9 weeks. However, reports can usually be completed within 1 week of the appointment taking place.

For reports not requiring appointments, the waiting time is currently 6 weeks from receipt of all documentation.

Medical Witness Training Day

On 22nd June 2017 Professor Allen-Mersh attended the Medical Witness Training Day organised by Stewarts Law LLP.

Professor Allen-Mersh attended an interesting talk entitled ‘Digital Health and Insurance’ at the Royal Society of Medicine on 1st June 2017, organised by the Telemedicine and eHealth Section.

    Professor Allen-Mersh has edited two text books of surgery, and contributed chapters to more than 20 textbooks of surgery, cancer and gastrointestinal disorders. He has published more than a hundred papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.
    Training, qualifications and accreditation as an expert witness
    Professor Allen-Mersh initially attended a Bond Solon Expert Witness Training Course in 1994. He was a founder member of the Expert Witness Institute in 1996. He is a member of the Faculty of Expert Witnesses for Doctors. He is an associate member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), with whom he has 1st tier 2 star expert witness listing. He has regularly attended teaching and update conferences on personal injury assessment and medico-legal practice. He has given invited talks on various aspects of gastrointestinal conditions at the annual meetings of AVMA and APIL. He attended the Specialist Info Advanced Medico-Legal Course in June 2015, and the APIL legal training course for expert witnesses in October 2020.
