RSM talk

Professor Allen-Mersh attended an informative talk at the Royal Society of Medicine entitled ‘Emergency Medicine and Health System strengthening’ on 2nd September 2019.

Waiting times

The current waiting time for medico-legal appointments at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London is now 4 weeks. Reports can usually be provided within 2 weeks of the appointment.

For full reports not requiring appointments, the waiting time is currently 6 weeks from receipt of all documentation.

Giving evidence in Court

Professor Allen-Mersh assisted in a diverticulitis case in the High Court of Justice, Birmingham on 11th June 2019.

Surgical Skills Teaching Session

Professor Allen-Mersh participated once again as a trainer on the pan-London Higher General Surgical Skills Training Course held in Imperial College on 20th May 2019. The subject on this occasion was ‘hand-sewn and stapled ileoanal pouch formation’.

RSM talk – Eat, move, live

On 3rd June 2019 Professor Allen-Mersh attended a talk at the Royal Society of Medicine entitled ‘Eat, move, live’. Discussing the role of physical activity in sustaining health – understanding that weight stigmatisation is counter-productive and can lead to weight gain – the genetic susceptibility to environmental cues and how to support patients to eat and move well.

    Professor Allen-Mersh has edited two text books of surgery, and contributed chapters to more than 20 textbooks of surgery, cancer and gastrointestinal disorders. He has published more than a hundred papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.
    Training, qualifications and accreditation as an expert witness
    Professor Allen-Mersh initially attended a Bond Solon Expert Witness Training Course in 1994. He was a founder member of the Expert Witness Institute in 1996. He is a member of the Faculty of Expert Witnesses for Doctors. He is an associate member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). He has regularly attended teaching and update conferences on personal injury assessment and medico-legal practice. He has given invited talks on various aspects of gastrointestinal conditions at the annual meetings of AVMA and APIL. He attended the Specialist Info Advanced Medico-Legal Course in June 2015.
